50'sDecade Day – Back to the 50's. A little modida, here. A little modida, there. That's right; it's a flashback to really rockin' n rollin' times, with one-hit wonder rock-n-roll bands and some of the best dance moves ever made. We jump into the suped up '57 Chevy hotrod and head on down to the carhop eatery to see just why we are put on this earth to have a good time. Some people tap their feet, some people snap their fingers, and some people sway back and forth. We just sort of do them all together in this journey back to the 50's on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012.

Mardi Gras JesterMardi Gras Party. Grove Street celebrates "Fat Tuesday". Mardi Gras is traditionally a time of colorful celebration – and the children of WASC get involved with our Mardi Gras crafts, costumes, snacks and other fun activities specific for kids! On Friday, February 17th, 2012 we showcase our Mardi Gras Party..., WASC style. The children will participate in creating mini floats for our Mardi Gras parade, jewelry and craft making activities, and also indulging in some delicious snacks. Games will be played and prizes will be won, so wear your purple, yellow and green and receive a special surprise.

WASCARWASCAR. Boys and girls, start your engines! On February 27th, 2012 all race car fans will be gathering into the Williams Elementary Speedway for the traditional Opening Ceremonies and joining in on the festivities to the start of the "Chase for the Cup". All participants receive their own WASCAR Lanyard with Pit Pass Credential Holder. Each day thereafter WASCAR fans will choose their area of interest desired to compete in, leading up to the WASCAR of the Year and the Auburndale 500. On March 2nd, 2012 each educator will be returning a Racing Team back to the Williams Elementary Speedway for the Closing Ceremonies, honoring those who participated in the games and for their achievements accomplished throughout the course of the week's events.

Stop BullyingParent Information Night. Know the facts about bullying, even if you don't think bullying affects your child. As part of our bullying prevention policy, we have a Peer On Peer Aggression Reduction Program which is implemented when we encounter a bullying issue. All WASC children are familiar with this program as part of our regular curriculum. We would like to share this process with the WASC parents with this short seminar geared towards adults. We hope you can join us on Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 at 4:45 PM in the Williams Elementary School Auditorium. This is an adults only event, please do not bring your children.

NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY:

Go Red For WomenGo Red For Women. Do good by looking good and joining millions on Friday, February 3rd, 2012 to stand up and speak out against heart disease in women. Choose to be a leader. Inspire friends, family and co-workers to wear red and speak up about heart disease – our number one killer.

Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power we have as women to band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke. Thanks to the participation of millions of people across the country, the color red and the red dress now stand for the ability all women have to improve their heart health and live stronger, longer lives. By teaching more and more women how to talk to their doctors about heart disease, we can save thousands of lives every year. Because the good news is that heart disease is often preventable!

SUGGESTED READING:

A Bad Case of the Giggles"A Bad Case of the Giggles: Kids Pick the Funniest Poems, Book #2". This book is a timeless classic! Bruce Lansky (Editor) and Stephen Carpenter (Illustrator) put together one of the funniest and most successful collections of children's poetry ever published. This book will inspire young readers and give them the giggles as they read each page. It is one of the funniest anthologies of children's poetry ever published and includes works from famed poets such as Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky, Jeff Moss, Judith Viorst, and Bruce Lansky, as well as works from a gaggle of "Giggle Poets".

In this novel, you will read about stinky feet, sticky suckers, sloppy kisses, embarrassing burps, creepy crawlers, dumb dogs, slippery spaghetti, and everything else that makes life funny. Here's a fan favorite Poem written by Bill Dodds that made us chuckle:

"Row, Row, Row Your Boat"

Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream,
Until you hit the waterfall –
Then you'll start to scream.
